Bill Sheetz handled over 100 appeals while assigned to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Appellate Division.  Mr. Sheetz tried hundreds of misdemeanor cases, felony cases and white collar crime cases as a Dallas County prosecutor.  Mr. Sheetz gained valuable experience as a state prosecutor.  Here, Mr. Sheetz learned how a prosecutor thinks. 

After great success at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Bill Sheetz was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas during the Reagan Administration.  Mr. Sheetz worked in the Lubbock Division and Dallas Division of the Northern District of Texas.  Mr. Sheetz achieved great success investigating federal crimes before Federal Grand Jurys and trying federal cases. This included cases such as government fraud, drug conspiracies, weapons charges, bank fraud, money laundering, and tax fraud.  Mr. Sheetz worked closely with the FBI, IRS, ATF and other governmental agencies.  Mr. Sheetz refined his trial skills while handling these federal cases from the moment the case was assigned to him and throughout the Federal Grand Jury investigation, trial of the case and appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

The United States Attorney assigned Mr. Sheetz to head a special tax prosecution unit.  This tax unit devoted its resources to Federal Grand Jury investigations and trials of tax evasion, tax fraud and money laundering cases.  To underscore Mr. Sheetz’ success as the top tax prosecutor, the IRS Commissioner presented Mr. Sheetz “The Tax Prosecution Award.”       

Mr. Sheetz left the United States Attorney’s Office in the Fall of 1989.  Over the next twenty-eight years, Mr. Sheetz built a great reputation as a skilled criminal defense trial attorney specializing in white collar criminal defense and the defense of citizens accused of tax evasion, money laundering, government fraud, bank fraud, securities violations, organized crime, international drug conspiracies among many other criminal offenses.

Meet Bill Sheetz

Bill Sheetz is an aggressive results oriented criminal defense attorney. Mr. Sheetz was appointed a prosecutor by legendary Dallas County District Attorney, Mr. Henry Wade. Mr. Sheetz was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney. As a State and Federal prosecutor Mr. Sheetz learned how a prosecutor thinks. After leaving the government, Mr. Sheetz, armed with keen trial skills, knows the first line of defense is to dismiss the charges. If the case goes to trial then Mr. Sheetz leaves “no stone unturned” in the defense of his clients. Mr. Sheetz obtained “Not Guilty Verdicts” and dismissal of charges in both State and Federal Courts. Ten Clients illustrate Mr. Sheetz’ results oriented passion:

  • Client found Not Guilty of 15 counts of Federal Government Fraud (in- excess of $1.5 Million);
  • Client charged with multi-ton cocaine federal drug conspiracy received 5- year sentence;
  • Canadian government official charged with conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The U.S. District Court ordered the Indictment dismissed.  The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed;
  • Client found Not Guilty of Driving While Intoxicated;
  • Client charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Case dismissed;
  • Client charged with State drug offenses: possession with intent to distribute marijuana greater than two hundred pounds and possession of cocaine in two South Texas counties. State District Courts dismiss the cases.
  • Client charged with Probation Violation for Felon in Possession of a Firearm while on probation for four aggravated robberies. Client was indicted for Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  The prosecutor’s office and probation office withdrew the four Motions to Revoke Probation.  The prosecutors and defense agreed to a plea bargain agreement and the Client received a sentence of two- years- probation for Felon in Possession of a Firearm;
  • Client, a tattoo artist, charged with a misdemeanor offense of tattooing a minor while on probation for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The prosecutors and probation office agreed to continue the client on probation.  The State Court ordered the misdemeanor dismissed.
  • Client indicted for multiple drug possession offenses, burglary of a habitation, and felon in possession of a firearm while on probation for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Client received probation for all charges and the prosecutor and the probation office agreed to withdraw the Motion to Revoke Probation.
  • Client indicted for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (the victim suffered serious brain injuries). Client received probation.
